The travelling contingent comprising players, officials, and media staff enjoyed the tour as part of a programme curated by the Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) under its expanding sports tourism portfolio.
The initiative reflects KTB’s broader strategy of leveraging the global reach of sports to amplify Kenya’s visibility as a premier travel destination.
“It is my first time coming to Nairobi National Park, and it was amazing, especially with the close wildlife encounters.
I will share this experience with my family and friends and invite everyone, not just Angolans, but people everywhere, to visit this wonderful place,” said Eric Goncalves, Director of Communications for the Angola Football Federation.
Defender Eddie Afonso echoed similar sentiments, highlighting Kenya’s warmth and hospitality: “Nairobi is a wonderful city with kind people and a unique environment. Experiencing the park here was very special and memorable for all of us.”
This familiarisation trip follows KTB’s recent strategic moves to intertwine sports with destination branding. Earlier this month, KTB partnered with the FKF to harness the popularity of Harambee Stars in positioning Kenya as a vibrant tourism hub.
This complements previous initiatives involving top athletes and international sporting events to elevate Kenya’s global profile.
Arcilen Oliveira, Director of Football for Angola, also lauded the experience: “Although I have visited Kenya before, this was my first time at a national park here.
The combination of excellent hospitality and proximity to nature made this trip unforgettable. It’s not every day you get this close to such diverse wildlife.”
On the pitch, Angola’s CHAN 2024 campaign ended in the group stage. They opened with a 2-0 loss to Morocco, drew 1-1 with Kenya, edged Zambia 2-1, before a 2-1 defeat to DR Congo sealed their exit from the tournament.
