Police qualified for their maiden CAFCL after ousting Gor Mahia to clinch what was also their first-ever FKF Premier League title.

The success continued the rapid rise the team has enjoyed since their promotion to the top tier four years ago, including competing in last season’s CAF Confederation Cup.

Today’s match comes on the back of the first leg played a week earlier at the same venue, where the Kenyan side emerged 3-1 victors.

Erick Zakayo opened the scoring in the 15th minute for a first-half lead before Marsis equalized for Mogadishu in the 50th minute. However, Edward ‘Ondimo’ Omondi restored Police’s lead seven minutes later, with David Simiyu sealing victory in the 70th minute.

The law enforcers cannot afford to be complacent and will be keen on finishing the job to book a place in the next round, where they will face the winner between South Sudan’s Jamus and Sudanese giants Al-Hilal Omdurman.

Police captain David ‘Cheche’ Ochieng noted that his side is not yet satisfied with the first-leg win and wants to complete the double.

“We have been working on recovery ever since the match, so we have not really resumed training yet. We have a good team, and we know that team, and we beat them 3-1, so we want to continue the momentum and get the win,” Ochieng said.

Additionally, the former AFC Leopards defender urged his teammates to remain focused and seal qualification over the 90 minutes.

“It is far from over. We have to stay focused because it is never over until the last whistle. We have to be serious and humble enough to ensure it ends on Sunday,” he added.

Tanzanian giants Simba SC, home to former Kenya Police star Mohammed Bajaber, will also be in CAFCL action simultaneously with Police.

Simba will welcome Botswana’s Gaborone United, whom they beat 1-0 in the first leg, for the return tie at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.
