Gor Mahia are keen to reclaim their dominance in the Kenyan football scene and have begun in earnest the rebuild of both the technical bench and the playing unit.
The former FKF Premier League champions are seemingly closing in on Bandari FC defender Siraj Mohammed.
Siraj, who plays either on the left or right flank of defense met with Gor Mahia deputy patron Eliud Owalo, who also doubles up as the Deputy Chief of Staff, Delivery and Government Efficiency, on Friday, 4 July.
Owalo hosted Siraj at his official office and chose to play safe on the contents of their discussion, opting to send good wishes ahead of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).
“Had a chat with Kenya National Soccer Team Harambee Stars Left Back Siraj Mohammed this afternoon.
Wishing him and the team a good outing in the forthcoming CHAN tournament,” read a post by Owalo on his official Facebook account.
Owalo has previously been involved in the signing and transfer activities at Gor Mahia, including convincing Austin Odhiambo to remain at the club.
The former ICT Cabinet Secretary, who is keen to take K'Ogalo to greater heights, also met Siraj’s teammate, custodian Byrne Omondi, with the two reportedly agreeing on the keeper to join Gor Mahia.
Peculiarly, Owalo has met players who play in some of the positions K'Ogalo struggled with this season, including right back and goalkeeping.
The two positions are also part of the areas that the previous Gor Mahia coaches recommended for reinforcement before they were sent packing.
Siraj, who has been with the Dockers for over five years, may consider a move to the 21-time league champions following the expiry of his contract with Bandari at the end of June.
K'Ogalo posted a disappointing season, missing out on both the league and the Mozzart Bet Cup, and thereby passed a chance to play in next season's continental football.
The club responded to the disappointment by sacking the entire technical bench, including the security personnel and are in the process of hiring a new technical bench.
