The lethal striker marked his comeback from injury with a goal in APS Bomet’s narrow 2-1 defeat to the table toppers, reminding many of his knack for tormenting K’Ogalo.
Introduced in the second half, Ochieng’s sharp movement and eye for goal immediately lifted his side, with his cameo earning admiration from his coach.
“I am happy for Hansel, who is coming back from injury. This was his first game. I think the forty-five minutes were enough for him.
He is very instrumental in our team, and we are looking forward to him playing in the next games,” said Omollo.
The former AFC Leopards striker has built a reputation for delivering against Gor Mahia.
In the reverse fixture in November 2025, he struck a brace in a memorable performance that showed his big-game temperament.
Ochieng turned that match on its head with two quick goals in the 39th and 42nd minutes to hand APS Bomet a 2-1 lead at the break.
After the restart, the hosts maintained their grip and added two late goals in the 77th and 87th minutes to seal a commanding victory over the record champions.
He was unlucky to miss out on a hat-trick after his third effort eventually went down as an own goal, having deflected off a Gor Mahia defender on its way in.
Reflecting on his scoring exploits against K’Ogalo after his brace back in November, Ochieng admitted the fixture brings out the best in him.
“It’s a good thing when you score and better when it enables the team to get maximum points. The team comes first,” he said.
“It is a good feeling that we have put a statement out there that we are a 'bad' team. We hope this win can enable us to move forward, put the lessons we have learned into use and push the team,” he added.
Despite Sunday’s setback, Omollo remains confident that the Premier League newcomers will beat the drop and cement their place in the top flight.
