AFC Leopards chairman Boniface Ambani says that prioritizing players’ welfare has been key to the team’s resurgence and their current fine run in the FKF Premier League, where they are vying to end a 28-year wait for the KPL title.

Ingwe currently trail league leaders Gor Mahia by six points. Compared to previous seasons, the team has shown promising form and are considered genuine contenders to challenge Gor Mahia all the way.
With the two sides yet to meet in the return leg of the Mashemeji Derby, the title race remains very much open despite Gor Mahia’s recent strong performances.
Ambani, a former striker, was elected chairman in June, taking over from ex-player Dan Shikanda, who completed two terms. Asked what has sparked the team’s turnaround, Ambani pointed to timely payment of salaries and allowances as the driving factor.
“What we have done with the team is boost the players’ morale. We pay them on time, and their allowances are all up to date. Our sponsors have been doing a tremendous job, and their support has been crucial to where we are today,” Ambani told NTV.
While the team fights for the league title, the club is already planning ahead in terms of player signings. Ambani confirmed that a full-scale overhaul is not on the agenda, with the focus instead on reinforcing specific areas.
“At the end of the season, we don’t plan a complete overhaul. We aim to bring in the right players for the right positions,” he explained.
He added that the club will bring in a maximum of four new players to fill identified gaps in the squad.
“If we proceed with signings, it will likely be four players, as we have already pinpointed the positions that need reinforcement.”
