Match manipulation has been a thorn in the flesh of the country's football development, with several stakeholders coming out to speak against it, the latest being FKF Premier League coaches.

Days after former Tusker head coach Charles Okere revealed the prevalence of the vice in Kenya, Kakamega Homeboyz tactician Patrick Odhiambo and his Sofapaka counterpart Abdallah Juma also admitted to widespread match manipulation within our leagues.

Speaking after his team’s 2-0 victory over Bandari FC on Sunday, 1 March, Muyoti revealed fresh attempts to lure new recruits into match manipulation.

“We are receiving calls up to now from Asia and everywhere about fixing matches. If we were not strong, we would have gone in that direction, but we have not because we have integrity,” said Muyoti.

The visibly frustrated tactician revealed the extent to which the vice is rooted in the Kenyan game.

“I have been talking about match fixing for about four years, and not just now. It is there. We cannot lie about that. Match fixing is there.

There are people using players, officials and coaches to fix matches, and if the federation is not going to do anything about it, it is going to escalate to another level. I have experienced it, and it is now on them to do investigations and find out what is happening,” he added.

The former Nairobi City Stars head coach expressed his fears over the game being completely ruined by such antics.

“If the government and federation do not do something, we will be in trouble. Football will go down the drain. We need players to be honest, and at the same time, clubs to pay players on time or else it will continue. This matter must be addressed as soon as possible,” he remarked.

Goalkeepers have particularly been in the spotlight over the manner in which they concede goals.
