A statement win against City on Wednesday night is precisely what Potter needs to get his Blue machine going

Chelsea face EPL champions and are desperately hoping for a victory despite a long list of sidelined players

Chelsea have lost ten of their last 14 away matches against Manchester City in all competitions, losing 1-0 last season in the Premier League. The Blues also have a lengthy injury list and will be without Ben Chilwell, Reece James, N'Golo Kante, Wesley Fofana and Kepa Arrizabalaga, while Jorginho is also a doubt with a foot problem.

Yet, no one can forbid Graham Potter from dreaming of a massive win at the Etihad on Wednesday night, in the third round of the League Cup, that could propel his side after a series of various setbacks.

"We have to go to Manchester City and be competitive because I'm sure they will be. In trying to win the game, we have to be as strong as we can," explained Potter ahead of the skirmish with Pep Guardiola's side:

"We'll do our best and prepare the team, and with the greatest respect to our opponent. They're a fantastic team. We go to try and win the game."

On the other end, Guardiola believes Erling Haaland hasn't fully recovered from his foot injury, so he may be rested.

Joao Cancelo is suspended after being sent off against Fulham at the weekend for stopping a clear goalscoring opportunity, and Kyle Walker is also not available.
