The 20-year-old clocked a scintillating 8:53.37, a World Lead and Personal Best, as she stormed to her third Diamond League victory of the season.
Cherotich, who had already clinched wins in Doha and Oslo, delivered a tactically brilliant race to upset Tokyo Olympic champion Peruth Chemutai at Stade Charléty.
The Ugandan set a strong early pace, but Cherotich’s powerful kick in the closing stages left no doubt, with Chemutai settling for second in 8:54.51, and Ethiopia’s Sembo Almayew third in 9:01.22.
“For now, I have the confidence to run the next race,” Cherotich said post-race.
“Everyone is in good shape, and I need to prepare my mind. I am going to improve on some areas of weakness and return for a better race.”
Despite her young age, Cherotich is proving herself one of the standout steeplechasers in the world this season.
Her Paris performance not only confirmed her current dominance but also set the tone for what promises to be a thrilling showdown at the World Championships in Tokyo this September.
“The race in Paris was not easy. When we started, the pace was so fast, and I just knew I was on course for a personal best. Peruth was leading, but when I caught up, I was confident this was going to be a big one,” she added.
With her next Diamond League stop yet to be confirmed, the world is watching as the world bronze medallist sharpens her form and sets her sights on even greater milestones.
