The fast-rising youngster delivered a stunning performance to win the Oslo Diamond League in a meet record time of 9:02.60 on Thursday, 12 June in Norway.

The exciting Cherotich reignited her rivalry with Kenyan-born Olympic champion Winfred Yavi of Bahrain, and just like in Doha, Qatar, last month, came out on top, this time with even more authority.

Cherotich started the race in third place, calmly settling behind pacemaker Krolik. Yavi hovered between third and fourth position in the early stages as the pack moved steadily through the opening kilometre with minimal shifts in positioning.

By the halfway mark, Cherotich looked poised and confident, gradually inching forward to control the pace. Her composure in the front was notable. She was steady, unfazed, and clearly planning another well-timed strike.

As the bell rang for the final lap, it became a two-woman showdown between Cherotich and Yavi.

The Bahraini had moved into second position with Marwa Bouzayani of Tunisia in third. All eyes were now firmly fixed on how Cherotich would manage the final stretch, especially after her thrilling late surge in Doha, where she edged out Yavi in the last 200 metres.

True to form, Cherotich unleashed her trademark final burst of speed and kicked hard in the homestretch. Yavi responded but could not keep up with the Kenyan’s closing power.

Cherotich surged ahead to break the tape in a meet record of 9:02.60, shaving over two seconds off her Doha time of 9:05.08.

Yavi, who clocked a season’s best of 9:02.76, settled for second once more, while Bouzayani completed the podium with a solid run in third place.

This victory marks back-to-back Diamond League wins for Cherotich over the Olympic champion, solidifying her reputation as one of the top contenders in the event heading into the Tokyo World Championships.
