The match, initially slated for Saturday, 6 December, at the MMUST Grounds, has been officially called off.
The decision comes as both university sides prepare for their respective academic ceremonies. MMUST will conduct their graduation on Friday, 5 December, just a day before matchday, making it logistically impossible for the institution to host the clash in Kakamega.
Similarly, Daystar University are also gearing up for their own academic event, prompting both clubs to mutually agree to postpone the fixture to a later date.
The postponement effectively brings the varsity sides’ Kenya Cup engagements for the year to a close. Their next competitive outings will come during the Enterprise Cup quarterfinals set for Saturday, 13 December.
Daystar Falcons will tackle former Enterprise Cup champions KCB Rugby in their round of 16 match, while MMUST are set to face Menengai Oilers.
Both sides will be hoping for a turnaround in the cup competition after a difficult run in the league. Daystar Falcons remain winless this season, having suffered back-to-back losses to Menengai Oilers and defending champions Kabras RFC.
MMUST have faced a similar fate, falling to Kabras and Kenya Harlequin in their opening fixtures.
The Enterprise Cup also presents a timely opportunity for the university sides to reset and possibly close the year on a positive note.
Despite the cancellation of the MMUST-Daystar encounter, rugby fans can still look forward to an action-packed weekend of Kenya Cup fixtures across the country.
Defending champions Kabras Sugar will host struggling Impala RFC at the Kakamega Showground as the Sugarmen aim to maintain their early-season momentum.
In Nakuru, league leaders Menengai Oilers welcome Kisumu RFC, with the visitors hoping to find their footing after a tough return to top-flight rugby.
Former champions KCB Rugby face Strathmore Leos in what has traditionally been a thrilling fixture, while Nondescripts take on Nakuru RFC as both sides hunt for valuable early-season points.
Rounding off the weekend action, Blak Blad will play host to an in-form Kenya Harlequin side, a fixture that always carries its own spark and intensity.
