Mozzart Bet restores dignity at Kagumori Primary, boosts grassroots football in Embu

Last year, ACK Kagumori Primary School celebrated a major academic milestone after eight candidates secured admission to national schools.

This year, the Embu-based institution has raised the bar, setting an ambitious target of sending at least 15 learners to Kenya's top secondary schools.

School headteacher Dickson Nyagah believes the target is achievable, citing recent improvements in the school's learning environment, including the construction of the state-of-the-art toilets and donation of 100 desks by the leading gaming firm, Mozzart Bet.

Speaking during the commissioning of the new facilities on Friday, Nyagah said the investment had come at a crucial time as the school continues to record a steady rise in enrolment.

"We are extremely grateful for this support because it has come at a time when our population is growing. An increase of more than 100 learners in one year means we needed facilities that can comfortably serve both our current and future pupils

I remain confident in having more of our learners join national schools this year," said Nyagah, who is also an old boy of the school.

Established in 1951, ACK Kagumori Primary School currently has 398 learners and 18 teachers.

Since Nyagah took over as headteacher in 2021, the school has continued to register steady academic progress, with last year's eight national school admissions standing out as one of its biggest achievements.

The newly completed project includes a 14-door toilet block with separate facilities for boys and girls, a four-door sanitation unit for teachers, and handwashing stations aimed at improving hygiene across the school.

The institution also received 100 new desks, easing pressure on existing classroom furniture.

Mozzart Bet Kenya Country Manager Sasa Krneta said the company was proud to support a project that directly improves the wellbeing of learners and teachers.

"Every child deserves to learn in a safe, healthy and dignified environment. While this may appear to be a simple structure, its impact is far-reaching. Better sanitation promotes improved hygiene, restores dignity and creates a learning environment where pupils can fully concentrate on their education," said Krneta.

He added that investing in education goes beyond infrastructure, saying improved facilities would contribute to better academic outcomes by allowing learners to focus on their studies without worrying about inadequate sanitation.

The Gambling Authority of Kenya also praised the initiative through Assistant Director Esther Argwings, who represented Chairperson Joseph Limo.

Argwings said the project demonstrated how collaboration between the private sector, sports organisations and local communities can help address challenges facing learning institutions.

"Clean and dignified learning environments are essential to the wellbeing of learners. Projects like this improve hygiene, support better health and create conditions that allow children to learn effectively," she said.

Embu County Executive Committee Member for Sports Jane Waroga described the project as an investment in the future of the county's children.

"This is more than the construction of toilets and the donation of desks. It is about restoring dignity, improving learning conditions and giving our children a better opportunity to achieve their dreams," she said.

FKF Premier League side 3K FC also played a key role in bringing attention to the school's sanitation challenges.

Club chairman Charles Njoka Njagi, an alumnus of the institution, said supporting the school was a personal mission.

"As a former pupil, it is gratifying to see learners now enjoying facilities that we never had. This intervention will ensure current and future generations study in a safer and more conducive environment," said Njagi.

The sanitation challenge had persisted for years before the club presented the school's case, leading to the construction of the new facilities.

ACK Kagumori Primary becomes the third school to benefit from Mozzart Bet Kenya's sanitation program after Kwa Koko Primary School in Machakos County and Waa Primary School in Kwale County.

Beyond the school infrastructure upgrade, Mozzart Kenya also extended its support to grassroots football by donating full playing kits and two footballs to each of the 10 local teams.

The initiative was aimed at promoting sporting talent within the community and providing young players with the resources needed to develop their skills and compete effectively.

The teams that benefited from the initiative were Bastian FC, Sky City FC, Green Everton FC, Wakali FC, Mlima FC, Embu Supreme FC, Young Boys FC, Super Striker FC, 3K Women’s FC and 4 Stars FC.
