Kenya 7s star Floyd Wabwire is still enjoying the sweet smell of success after his spectacular performance in the recently concluded Safari 7s.

Wabwire was instrumental in Kenya Morans' splendid performance during the weekend.

The Morans missed out on the podium after humbling KCB Rugby 26-0 in the fifth-place playoff.

The 2021 Safari 7s bronze medallist checked into the RFUEA Grounds with a 24-0 victory over Western Province Select before narrowly defeating in-form Samurai 14-12.

They would then suffer a 22-7 defeat at the hands of KCB Rugby. Their 14-17 loss to Germany saw them end their day one campaign on a low.

The determined Morans however bounced back on day two to school Tropic 7s 26-10, before their 26-0 revenge over KCB Rugby that saw them claim fourth position.

Reviewing the weekend, Wabwire expressed satisfaction with the team's performance despite falling short of their target to defeat Kenya Shujaa.

"It was a privilege to represent the national team. It was a tough experience but we just did our best as guided by the coach. Our aim was to beat Shujaa in the final but we did not. We will do better next time," he offered.

For the versatile player, the tournament was a rollercoaster of emotions. He revealed that the toughest moments for him were the losses against KCB and Germany.

Morans lost to Germany and KCB Rugby in their final matches on Saturday. They would however bounce back to defeat the Bankers 26-0 in the fifth-place playoffs.

"My tough moment was losing the KCB game because we were overexcited matching on to the game. We played out of structure which also cost us. Losing to Germany was also a tough moment. But when we faced KCB again, I did my best and we managed the revenge," he excitedly said.

Wabwire who has been training with Shujaa since his inclusion in the Hamilton and Sydney 7s squad earlier in January further revealed that he was itching for more playing time with the team.

Kenya 7s have not lost a single match under the tutelage of the new technical bench headed by Kevin Wambua.

"I am working on my weaknesses and I want to be a regular on the Shujaa side. To be part of Shujaa for quite some time because it is very competitive and every day a new talent comes up," he offered.

The now-former Daystar Falcons player will be looking to carry the same form into the upcoming 2022/23 Kenya Cup season. Wabwire is in the final stages of joining Menengai Oilers and will be keen to propel the side to greatness.

"I have learned to put my best foot forward," he said.

The versatile player made his international debut during the Hamilton and Sydney 7s tournament under former coach Damian Mc Grath and joined Daystar Falcons RFC from St Peters Mumias.

The versatile Wabwire who can play center, wing, or fullback in 15s has been in impeccable form for Daystar for both their 7s and 15s teams and was the first player from the University to play for Shujaa while still in their books.

The university has also produced the likes of Africa Men's 7s Top Try Scorer Patrick Odongo.
