The highly anticipated showdown ended prematurely due to heavy rainfall that rendered the pitch unplayable, forcing match officials to call off the game with minutes to go.
The conditions deteriorated so quickly that players were forced to seek shelter in nearby tents, and no trophy presentation took place.
Nonetheless, Strathmore’s dominant first-half performance proved decisive, sealing back-to-back Prinsloo titles and exacting revenge for last weekend’s narrow 15-14 loss to KCB in the Driftwood 7s final.
From kickoff, the Leos played with intent and urgency. Victor Mola set the tone with the opening try, slicing through the KCB defence. Moments later, Stanslaus Shikoli bulldozed over the line to extend the lead, sending the crowd into a frenzy.
KCB hit back through Bob Muhati, who powered his way over after sustained pressure. But Mola, in fine form, struck again just before halftime to complete his brace and swing momentum back in Strathmore’s favour.
Barnabas Owino then capped off a clinical first half with a well-executed try, handing the Madaraka-based side a commanding 24-7 lead at the break.
The second half offered little opportunity for a comeback. KCB’s Samuel Asati came close to narrowing the gap, but he lost the ball while grounding.
The rain intensified, and the match was halted with three minutes left, and officials awarded the victory to Strathmore based on the existing scoreline.
In the third-place playoff, Catholic Monks stunned Menengai Oilers 17-10, while hosts Nakuru RFC edged Kenya Harlequin 24-19 in extra time to finish fifth.
Daystar Falcons claimed the Challenge Trophy with a resounding 39-0 win over Zetech Oaks.
Kenyatta University's Blak Blad will play in Division I of the Christie 7s slated for Saturday, 16 to Sunday, 17 August at the RFUEA Grounds.
In the women’s category, Mwamba RFC lifted the title after a hard-fought 15-10 victory over debutants Kenya Harlequins, with Edith Nariaka scoring twice to steer her side to glory.
