Wekesa will be returning to Monaco for a second season, having debuted in 2024, where he won a leg in Pau and bagged silver in La Rochelle
Kenya Sevens stars Patrick Odongo and Kevin Wekesa are set to miss the remainder of the 2025 National Sevens Circuit as they gear up for a stint in France with Monaco Rugby Sevens.
The duo will feature in the In Extenso Supersevens, a professional rugby sevens competition that kicks off on Wednesday, 16 August in Mont-de-Marsan, followed by rounds in Dax (August 23) and Pau (August 30).

The top eight teams from the 16 participating sides will then proceed to the grand final set for February 2026 at the Paris La Défense Arena.
Odongo, a Daystar Falcons player, and Wekesa, who represents Kabras Sugar RFC, will be unavailable for selection during this period.
Their absence is set to be felt, especially as the National 7s Circuit heads to the Prinsloo 7s.
In the Driftwood 7s opener, Wekesa played a key role in helping Kabras secure a third-place finish. Odongo’s Falcons, meanwhile, finished 12th.
Heading to Prinsloo, Daystar Falcons are placed in Pool B alongside Strathmore Leos, Menengai Oilers, and Zetech Oaks, while Kabras will contest Pool D with MMUST Rugby, Impala RFC, and Mwamba RFC.
Wekesa will be returning to Monaco for a second season, having debuted in 2024, where he won a leg in Pau and bagged silver in La Rochelle.
Odongo, on the other hand, is set to make his debut in the prestigious competition.
They will join a lineup of other professionals to be announced later, as Monaco Rugby Sevens look to reclaim the title from defending champions Barbarian Rugby Club.
The two recently made history in June by becoming the first Kenyan players to feature in India’s inaugural Rugby Premier League, where they represented franchises from Sunday, 15 to Sunday, 29 June.
They now follow in the footsteps of former Kenya 7s stalwart Alvin “Buffa” Otieno, who helped Monaco win the 2022 Supersevens title.
This year’s competition retains its format from previous editions, with the French Top 14 clubs joining Monaco and the Barbarians in a fight for sevens supremacy.
A women’s edition, introduced in 2024, will also run alongside, with the top four teams from the Pau qualifier advancing to the final in Paris.
