The school booked a place in the national school games for the first time ever

Ofafa Jericho High School’s rugby team has been on the rise in recent years after booking a place in the 2022 National school games with head coach James Kaili setting a target of getting to the knockout stages.

The school made history by punching their maiden ticket to the National school games after beating Nairobi School in the semi-finals with two teams from the Nairobi region games earning a ticket to the Nationals.

Kaili is not getting too carried away by their success as he noted that getting to the knockout phases of the National school games will be an achievement for his side.

“Being our first nationals we will focus on one game at a time and if we get to the knockout stages it will be a plus for us because we have never been there before.

We always try to mentor the boys to show them that winning is not everything, at their level they should be developing. If a win comes then it is a plus,” said Kaili.

Ofafa Jericho have had an outstanding 2022 after also winning their maiden Prescott Cup which is a 15s rugby tournament for school in Nairobi and its environs.

Kaili admitted that their Nairobi region finale against Upper Hill School which ended 7-5 in their favour was tense as they won by the barest of margins.

“Our final of the Nairobi region was very tough and tensed but our mistakes compared to our opponents which were Upper Hill were less,” added Kaili.
