Kenya qualifies for next year’s Rugby Africa Cup which serves as a qualifier for the inaugural World Women 15s WXV in 2023 following their victory over Uganda.
Kenya Lionesses head coach Dennis Mwanja has heaped praise on the women’s national 15s rugby side for nailing the game tactics in their match against Uganda Cranes which culminated in a 23-3 victory over the noisy neighbours on Wednesday evening at the Mutesa II Stadium in Wankulukuku.
Leading 8-0 at the interval, the Lionesses completed a clinical display of rugby to defeat the hosts and win the Rugby Africa Women’s Cup Pool B competition which guaranteed them a spot at next year’s Rugby Africa Cup which serves as a qualifier for the inaugural World Women 15s WXV in 2023.

Following the win, Mwanja lauded the team for their brilliant execution in the game which nullified Uganda’s threat throughout the encounter as the Kenya girls dominated.
“It was a good outing for us, we took advantage of our territorial dominance as we kept them under pressure in their half. We also played more building up phases which put them under pressure.
We rushed them in defense because they trusted in their physicality but we managed to cut that off which made them unable to have consistent play. Due to that, they started becoming erratic and they started panicking,” Mwanja said in an interview with Kenya Rugby Union.
Despite getting the bragging rights, Mwanja also picked areas of improvement where the team needs to focus on as they progress to the Rugby Africa 2023.
“The only area we need to improve is our strike rate because we dwelt in their zone for long and we did not convert that into points. Given it is our first outing, these are areas we will work on and there is still a lot of room to improve,” he added.
