Kenya will play in the placement matches after failing to qualify for the Main Cup Quarters.
There were plenty of positives to pick from Shujaa's 24-19 defeat to South Africa as Kenya finished Day 1 without a victory at the London leg of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series.
The same script played out in the game against South Africa as Kenya again failed to gather from the restart presenting the Blitzboks with the ball.
South Africa did not take long to get their grove as Muller du Plessis came close to the try line but unselfishly handed the ball over to Impi Visser who touched down with Ronald Brown adding the extras.
The Blitzboks knew where to hurt Shujaa as they gathered from the restart with the ball finding its way to Dewal Human who went on a lung-bursting run to get a try of his own for a 12-0 lead.
Neil Powell’s men had too much pace for the Kenyans as Muller du Plessis showed them a clean pair of heels from the halfway line to dot down South Africa’s third try of the game which was converted by Brown.
Shujaa skipper Nelson Oyoo showed that whatever South Africa can do he can do better as he scored a fine solo try turning the Blitzboke defense inside out to touchdown with Anthony Omondi converting the try to trail 19-7 at halftime.
Oyoo was proving to be a handful for South Africa as he again went on a 60-meter sprint to touch down with Omondi again adding the extras to put Kenya back in the clash by making a five-point ball game.
Kenya's hopes of securing a morale-boosting win over South Africa were dashed when skipper Siviwe Soyizwapi dished out two hand-offs to plough his way to the try box to hand his side a healthy 24-14 lead.
Salem Adoyo got the Kenyan faithful who were gathered at the Twickenham Stadium ecstatic with a last gasp try after running half the length of the pitch to grab his second-ever HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series try.
