
Lionesses maul Mexico to advance to HSBC Challenger Series quarterfinals

Skipper Grace Adhiambo had a game to remember as she managed a try and a couple of successful conversions
Kenya 7s women's team; Lionesses served Mexico some rugby lessons after thrashing them 40-0 at the Sevens Stadium in Dubai to register their second win in the ongoing HSBC Challenger Series.
The Dennis Mwanja-coached side was looking to bounce back following the narrow 12-10 loss to the Czechia Republic in on Friday.
They had seen off China 17-12 in their opening match to kickstart their promotion hunt on a high but suffered defeat at the hands of Czechia, leaving the team with no option other than to beat Mexico.
It was a talented scrum half Judith Akumu who opened the scoresheet for the Lionesses with a five-pointer that seemingly drove the crowd backing the Kenyan girls wild.
Captain Grace Adhiambo was sure with the conversion that extended Kenya's tally on the scoreboard.
Adhiambo was in the mod again as she touched down and further took the responsibility to convert, stretching the lead for Kenya.
Kenya bagged the third try through Stella Wafula but Adhiambo was unlucky to send the kick off target.
Naomi Amuguni danced between the Mexican defence to score another five-pointer that confirmed Kenya's lead. Having lost the previous conversion, Adhiambo redeemed herself by sending the ball through.
Phoebe Atieno and vintage player Sheila Chajira also added their names to the scoring party with tries which Adhiambo converted.
The result saw the Kenyans top their pool, and successfully sail into the tournament's quarterfinals.
