This follows the announcement that the board will choose between two nominees; Harriet Achieng Okach and Moses Olukohe Ndale, for the top leadership role.
In a letter to affiliates seen by Mozzart Sport, KRU Honorary Secretary Raymond Olendo confirmed that the Union’s Board will convene on Friday, June 5, to deliberate and vote on the next chairperson.
“The Board of Kenya Rugby Union, in its meeting held on 3rd June 2025, received the following nominees for consideration for appointment as the Chairman and/or Chairperson of Kenya Rugby Union: Harriet Achieng Okach and Moses Olukohe Ndale. The board has scheduled a meeting on 5th June 2025 to deliberate on the nominees and appoint one of them,” read the communique.
The latest development sets the stage for what could be a landmark moment in the Union’s governance history.
If elected, Okach would become the first woman to chair the Kenya Rugby Union, a breakthrough in a sport that has traditionally been male-dominated at administrative levels.
The selection process was triggered by the resignation of former chairman Alexander Sasha Mutai, who stepped down during a Special General Meeting (SGM) at the RFUEA Grounds on 30 May 2025.
His departure came amid internal boardroom wrangles and mounting calls for leadership change.
Following Mutai’s exit, Ndale, the then Vice Chairman, was appointed Acting Chairman for 14 days as per the Union’s governance constitution.
Ndale has served on the KRU Board since his election in September 2022.
Mutai, who was elected unopposed in 2023, faced growing criticism in recent months, with concerns over board integrity and governance practices.
A motion to remove him had been tabled at the SGM, ultimately leading to his resignation. In his farewell remarks, he thanked the rugby community for their support and outlined several milestones achieved during his term.
