The Kenya Simbas will play Uganda Cranes in quarter final four of the 2022 Rugby Africa Cup that serves as the 2023 RWC qualifier
Fierce rugby rivals Kenya and Uganda will battle against each other in the 2022 Rugby Africa Cup for a historic place in the Rugby World Cup that is scheduled for 2023 in France. This is after the quarter final pairings of the 2022 Rugby Africa Cup were confirmed by Rugby Afrique.
With both sides gunning for a maiden appearance at the showpiece tournament, the rivalry is made even more intense with the fact that the quarterfinals are a one-off knockout competition and also the fact that this year’s annual Elgon Cup, where the two sides battle for the bragging rights, did not take place due to the ravaging corona virus pandemic.
The other teams that will join the neighbouring East African nations in the quarter finals are Namibia, Cote d’Ivoire, Senegal, Algeria, Zimbabwe and Burkina Faso.

In this year’s Rugby Africa Cup, which was the penultimate round for the World Cup qualifiers, Uganda topped pool C to set up the clash with Kenya who survived an upset from Senegal to finish second behind the West African nation.
Going into the Rugby Africa Cup 2022, which also serves as the Rugby World Cup 2023 qualifier tournament for the African continent, there will be four quarter final matches and the winner of the final will get a direct ticket to the Rugby World Cup to occupy the African slot which was drawn in Pool A alongside hosts France, New Zealand, Italy and the winner of the equivalent Americas competition.
The losing finalist will take the grueling route through the Repechage which will be played before the Rugby World Cup kicks off on September 8, 2023.

After coming ever so close to qualifying for The Rugby World Cup back in 2019, only to miss out in the repechage tournament, the Kenya Simbas will want to avoid the hard ask that is by going for the direct ticket slot.
The dates and venue(s) of the quarter final matches will be confirmed by Rugby Africa at a later time
