The flyhalf scored two tries, six conversions and two penalties in the tournament held at Markotter Field

Kenya Simbas flyhalf Jone Kubu capped off a fine display for the men’s national 15s rugby team as he was named the Stellenbosch Player of the tournament upon conclusion of the two week competition that took place in South Africa.

Over the two games that Kenya played in the tournament against Namibia and Brazil, the Kabras Sugar utility player was on a class of his own as he picked out the opposition all through and deservedly made his way to the award.

“Congratulations to Jone Kubu who has been named as the Stellenbosch Challenge Player of the tournament,” read a congratulatory message on Kenya Simbas’ official portal.

In the semifinal where Kenya lost 60-24 to Namibia, his nine point tally was not enough to steer the team to victory. In the 3rd/4th playoff match however, his fine displays came to the fore again as he scored nineteen points to help Kenya claim a bronze finish with a 30-36 victory over South American side Brazil. Importantly, the flyhalf was involved in all the tries that Kenya managed to score in the whole tournament.

Kubu who made his Kenya Simbas debut in July scored two tries, six conversions and two penalties in the tournament held at Markotter Field

The Fijian born back has now played in five matches for the Paul Odera coached side and has scored 74 points for the side.

Whereas Kenya ended up finishing third with the victory against Brazil, Namibia were crowned the Stellenbosch Challenge winners after beating Zimbabwe Sables 41-10.
