Away from the game, however, the former speedster has nurtured a marriage grounded in patience, friendship, and mutual respect.
In December 2025, Injera and his wife marked 11 years of marriage, celebrating a journey that has unfolded largely away from the spotlight.
The couple, who are parents to three children, reflected on their milestone with a message that captured both gratitude and deep affection.
“11 years with my favourite person!! Grateful for you every day, my partner, my peace, our home’s heart. Thanks for being my rock and my goofy partner-in-crime.

Watching you thrive as a woman & mom is the real win. Here’s to more laughs, goofy memories, and holding your hand (not PDA). Happy anniversary. Love you,” Injera shared.
A love story years in the making
Injera’s relationship did not begin with grand gestures, but with quiet admiration and timing that only seemed to align years later.
“The first time I saw her was on a Sunday. We were heading for U21 training. At the time, I lived in Jamhuri, so I would meet up with the boys from the neighborhood and we’d head out together.
As we were about to board a matatu, I spotted her… she looked like she was heading to the shop or somewhere nearby,” he recalled in an interview with The Netwalking TV.
“I remember telling my friends how beautiful she was. They told me they knew her since she lived around, but back then, I was very shy, and I couldn’t talk to ladies, so I just let it pass,” he continued.
Their paths would cross again after high school at Multimedia University of Kenya, where both were seeking admission. This time, Injera cautiously seized the moment.
“That’s when I felt like this was my moment, so I started talking to her, though I still didn’t express my intentions,” he recalled.
What followed was a friendship that quietly deepened over four years through shared commutes, daily routines, and conversations that built a foundation.
“She’d call me, I’d pick her up, and we’d head to school. We became really good friends, but I still didn’t say anything about how I felt. That went on for about four years,” he shared.
Even when he hinted at a future together, it was met with soft laughter.
“Then one day, I told her, ‘It seems like we’ll end up together,’ and she just laughed it off,” he said.
Life would later pull them in different directions. She began working while Injera joined Daystar University. However, a later reconnection would ultimately bring clarity.
“When we reconnected, that’s when everything finally fell into place,” he offered.
The foundation of their marriage
For Injera, the strength of their relationship lies in who his wife is at her core.
“What stood out to me about her is her heart; she’s very kind and empathetic,” he described.
Her family also played a role in shaping their journey. By the time he was formally introduced, his reputation in rugby had already preceded him.
“The first time she took me home, her family already had an idea about me. She introduced me to her mum… Her mum even asked her if she was sure about me, and she said yes. Her mother is an amazing person,” he offered.
Over time, Injera also built a relationship with her father, marking another step in solidifying their union.

Beyond admiration, Injera was candid about the realities that come with fame and relationships. At the peak of his career, attention from fans, especially women, tested their early years.
“As a man, you have to be clear about your priorities. When we were starting, there was a lot of attention from women, and it used to bother her.
But over time, she realised that I respected our boundaries and had time for what truly mattered, and that gave her peace,” he averred.
It is this clarity that has sustained their marriage thus far.
A legacy beyond rugby
Injera’s rugby career remains one of the most decorated in Kenya’s history.
He famously broke the World Rugby Sevens Series all-time try-scoring record on May 21, 2016, at Twickenham Stadium during the London Sevens, scoring his 231st try against France to become the leading scorer in the series.
The milestone was made even more special by the presence of his family, including his parents and his brother, Humphrey Kayange, who delivered the final pass.
Injera’s excellence extended across tournaments, including the Hong Kong Sevens, where he became the event’s all-time top try scorer in 2019 before being surpassed by Dan Norton.
His consistency is perhaps best captured in his longevity; over 409 matches in the World Sevens Series, with no red cards and only four yellow cards, underscoring a career defined not just by brilliance, but discipline.
In recognition of his contribution to Kenyan sport, Injera and Kayange were awarded the Order of the Golden Warrior (OGW) in 2010, following Kenya’s historic 2008/09 season.
