Former KCB Rugby coach rejoins AFC Leopards ahead of new season

Former KCB Rugby strength and conditioning coach Michael Shamiah has completed a return to AFC Leopards ahead of the 2026-2027 FKF Premier League season.
Shamiah, one of Kenya's most experienced conditioning specialists, rejoins Ingwe with an extensive background both football and rugby, bringing expertise developed across the country's top clubs and national teams.

His coaching portfolio includes previous spells at: AFC Leopards, Kenya Lionesses, Kenya Sevens, KCB Rugby, Impala Saracens, Posta Rangers FC, Brookhouse International School and Runda French School International.
The appointment marks another chapter in Shamiah's decorated coaching career after leaving KCB Rugby in August 2024.
His departure came shortly after long-serving head coach Curtis Olago ended his 13-year tenure with the Bankers.
Shamiah signed off in style, helping KCB defend their Kabeberi 7s title with an emphatic 29-7 victory over Menengai Oilers to secure a third straight championship.
Having initially joined KCB in 2014, he played a pivotal role in overseeing players' physical conditioning, skill development and injury rehabilitation.
During his time with the Bankers, he also continued to build his reputation through assignments with Kenya Sevens, AFC Leopards and the Kenya Lionesses.
His credentials were further strengthened in 2023 when he attained the World Rugby Level Two Coaching (Sevens) Accreditation.
Following a brief spell away from rugby, Shamiah returned to the sport in November 2025 after joining Nondescripts RFC, where his immediate focus was improving the side's endurance levels.
Fitness had been a glaring concern for Nondies, who regularly dominated the early stages of matches only to lose momentum in the closing minutes.
The weakness proved costly in several key fixtures, including the Floodlit final against Menengai Oilers and a narrow Kenya Cup defeat to Nakuru, where late lapses denied them positive results.
Since Shamiah's arrival, however, there was a noticeable improvement in the team's physical output.
The Red Lions went on to defeat Menengai Oilers in the quarterfinal to advance to the final four of the 2025-2026 Kenya Cup season.
They however lost to KCB in the semifinals before issuing a walkover against Kenyatta University’s Blak Blad to finish fourth.
