Harambee Starlets goalkeeper Lilian Awuor has opened the lid on how she managed to overcome a costly blunder against Australia during the 2026 FIFA Series tournament.
Awuor was at fault, allowing Chelsea Women's team striker Sam Kerr to score an easy goal, in a match that ended 2-0 in favour of Australia.
She let in what seemed an harmless shot, from the forward, slip through her gloves to the disappointment of the hundreds of fans present.

Despite the setback, Awuor, who plies her trade in Romania with Farul Constanta, went on to have a decent game against The Matildas.
In an interview with the press, Awuor for the first time spoke of the incident and the role the team played thereafter.
“We have the best team, teammates and technical bench. Such an ordeal can happen but the most important thing is how to manage to get over it and the support you receive from the team,” said Awuor.
The 27-year-old went ahead to reveal the impact of playing Australia and India played in preparing the team for the upcoming 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
“We played against the best players in the World and realized that with hard work, all is possible. We also had a good display and that gives us the belief and confidence that we can be a great team,” she added.
Awuor, who was an understudy to Samantha Akinyi the last time Kenya competed at WAFCON, also explained the impact of the tournament's postponement to July and the team's preparations.
“We have had more time to train, improve on our weaknesses and improve on our strengths and are now more equipped to perform better.
WAFCON is a very big platform not only for me but the whole team in general. As a goalkeeping department, we are ready. We have trained well and the competition is so high which is good for the team,” she remarked.
