It is now official that Amon Wamalwa has left Kenya Harlequin for South Africa's Rhinos High-Performance Training Camp.
The former Homeboyz RFC playmaker announced that he has officially bid the Quins goodbye, and is ready for his next mission in the Southern Africa nation.
This is after an eight-month tenure with Quins. Wamalwa was roped in from Homeboyz RFC in June 2023 after his long eight years with the Deejayz.
Speaking after the announcement, the audibly excited Wamalwa was grateful for his interesting time with the Quins, noting that the lessons he picked were invaluable.
"The feeling is amazing it’s a great team and a great opportunity to be able to sharpen my skills," he told Mozzart Sport.
The player also revealed that being in the presence of great players like Frankie Horne who played for Rugby World Cup defending champions Springboks will motivate him to aim higher. He aims at playing professional rugby.
"The environment and former good players will inspire me and enable me to play pro and help my country Kenya," he averred.
Adapting to a new country comes with its fair share of challenges. Despite that, Wamalwa remained undeterred, noting that he would keep chasing his dream.
"The transition has been smooth and even faced some challenges but passed them," he offered.
The youngster who expressed his keen interest in learning the new trends in the game asked his fans to be on the lookout for a better player.
"My goal is to better player than the way I came and I will be able to do things that I wasn’t doing. Learning is a process I can’t say for now I’ve encountered some tough challenges it’s a good place to be a good environment. You should expect a different player to play a different game than before," he revealed.
The name Wamalwa came to the limelight while he was at Homeboyz RFC under the tutelage of former Shujaa assistant coaches Paul Murunga and Simon Odongo.
The two coaches have since joined Kenya Harlequins. Wamalwa will be keen to extend his fierce spirit under his new coaches.
Quins currently sit at position four with 24 points after winning 5/6 of their matches. Their recent score was a 9-3 loss in the hands of Kenyatta University's Blak Blad.
