The result marked the Leos’ first loss of the season. They were coming off consecutive wins over Blak Blad and Nondies RFC.
After a slow start last weekend, KCB arrived with purpose. Their opening visit to the try box was held up, but the Bankers meant business.
Moments later, off a maul on the right channel, Felix Ojoo bulldozed through his marker for the opening try, with Brian Wahinya converting for a 7-0 start.
Strathmore’s attempt to respond from the tee drifted wide, and KCB punished them immediately. The left flank became the Bankers’ playground as Mike Wekesa sprinted down the wing to score the second try. Wahinya added the extras for 14-0.
From there, the floodgates burst open.
Off a scrum near the left side, Wahinya attacked the blind side, releasing Wekesa to complete his brace. Tempers flared after the try, and both teams saw yellow cards, KCB’s Andycole Omolo among those sent to cool off.
But even with 14 men, KCB’s dominance only grew. Vincent Onyala sliced through Strathmore’s fractured defence before setting up Branton Lusisa for the bonus-point try.
Minutes later, Wahinya cut inside and put Onyala through for the fifth try. The tries came in waves. Elvis Namusasi added another before Wekesa turned creator, feeding George Ooro to score against his former club. Wahinya converted for a commanding 47-0 lead.
Strathmore finally capitalised on a clearance mistake to score a converted try before halftime, but with the scoreboard reading 47-7, the damage was long done.
KCB picked up right where they left off. Lusisa completed his brace, pushing the tally to 57 points. Replacement forward Bramwel Kilwake crashed over off a maul, stretching the score to 62-7.
Wahinya added a try of his own to extend the lead to 67-7, before Strathmore pulled one back for 67-14. But the bankers were not done. Off another scrum platform, Kilwake crossed the whitewash again, sealing a commanding 72-14 full-time victory.
