Katywa outshone three other nominees to claim the prestigious award, recognised for his stellar leadership in guiding Kabras to a remarkable double this season. The South African tactician steered the Kakamega-based side to retain both the Kenya Cup and Enterprise Cup titles.

On Saturday, 12 April, Kabras edged out Menengai Oilers 27-26 in a thrilling Kenya Cup final, followed by a commanding 32-12 victory over the same opponents in the Enterprise Cup final on Saturday, 26 April.

Kakamega Homeboyz FC head coach Francis Baraza secured second place in the voting. Baraza led his team through four matches in April, clinching league victories against AFC Leopards and Bandari, and advancing in the FKF Cup with a win over Shabana FC. His only stumble was a goalless draw against Sofapaka in the league.

Tying for third place were Kenya Women’s Sevens head coach Dennis Mwanja and Shabana FC’s Peter Okidi. Mwanja celebrated a historic triumph, guiding the Lionesses to their first-ever World Rugby Sevens Challenger Series title with 56 points, earning a spot in the promotion playoffs in Los Angeles.

Meanwhile, Okidi’s Shabana FC enjoyed a strong league run, defeating Bandari FC, FC Talanta, and Nairobi City Stars, though their FKF Cup journey ended with a loss to Kakamega Homeboyz FC.

Katywa expressed deep gratitude for the award, emphasising the collective effort behind the club's success.

“I’m thrilled to see hard work rewarded, and I commend SJAK for this excellent initiative,” he said. “This award isn’t just mine—it belongs to everyone in Kakamega who contributed to our success.

I’m here representing them, as their efforts made this possible. I couldn’t have done this alone, and I’m truly honoured to stand on their behalf.”

He highlighted the team’s collaborative spirit, a cornerstone of their achievements. “At Kabras, it’s always been about collective effort. That’s our culture, and this award reflects everyone’s contribution.”

He also praised the recognition of coaches, noting its broader impact. “It’s fantastic to see coaches being acknowledged. This will inspire many to elevate their standards. Today, we’ve been honoured, but moving forward, you’ll see many others earning this award.”
