The duo recently featured prominently for Monaco Rugby Sevens as the French outfit secured back-to-back titles in the In Extenso Supersevens, lifting the Dax leg on Saturday, 23 August.
That confirmed their tag as favourites heading into the last qualifying leg before the Paris Grand Final in February 2026.
Odongo and Wekesa’s bond has grown with every international outing.
The two also featured in the inaugural India Rugby Premier League back in June, albeit for different sides.
Wekesa played for the Hyderabad Heroes while Odongo turned up for the Delhi Redz.
They also represented Kenya together in the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series.
For the pair, the memories made off the pitch have been just as important as the performances on it.
For Wekesa, despite being a regular on the international stage, he admitted that homesickness does creep in from time to time, but having a teammate from the same country makes the experience lighter.
“The bond has really deepened. Playing outside the country with a teammate from home brings a sense of belonging and eases the feeling of missing family.
Being away for more than a month can be draining, but having someone who speaks your language and understands you makes it exciting,” he offered.
For Odongo, Wekesa’s experience has become a valuable guide, with the two frequently planning and navigating things together.
“Wekesa is now like a brother to me. Everywhere I have been, I have been with him, and we plan everything together. He’s a good friend, and I truly enjoy his company. Playing with him at the international level has strengthened our bond even more,” Odongo told Mozzart Sport.
On their return to Kenya, their form remained electric. Wekesa powered Kabras Sugar to a third-place finish, their best run in the recent National 7s Circuit legs, while Odongo inspired Daystar Falcons to a maiden final appearance, narrowly losing 20-10 to KCB Rugby.
