The Dala 7s title is Homeboyz's first win of the season

Homeboyz RFC won their very first title of the 2022 National Sevens Circuit season after getting the better of Menengai Oilers in the Dala 7s main cup final played at the Jomo Kenyatta Stadium in Kisumu on Sunday evening.

Playing in their very first final of the season, the Oscar Ayodi coached side managed to go all the way in clinching top honours in Kisumu as they recorded a 19-14 victory over Oilers who lost a second consecutive finale after going down to Mwamba at Driftwood 7s in Mombasa.

Amon Wamalwa put the Deejayz ahead, scoring after a silky run with Mike Nyakundi converting for a 7-0 lead. Oilers responded through Amos Onyinkwa with Mark Kwemoi converting to level the scores briefly at 7-7. Leonard Mugaisi then scored an unconverted try to give Homeboyz a 12-7 lead at the break.

In the second half, Collins Shikoli landed a third try for the deejays before Oilers struck late but Beldad Ogeta’s converted effort proved too little too late for Gibson Weru’s charges as Homeboyz became the fourth different side to win the title after four outings this season.

The season opening Kabeberi Sevens was won by KCB, Strathmore Leos winning the second outing (Christie 7s) before Mwamba won the Driftwood 7s.

In the Dala 7s 3/4th place playoff, KCB clinched bronze after edging first seeded Mwamba 10-7.

Strathmore Leos won the 5th place playoff 17-12 against Nondies.
