Former Kabras RFC coach Henry Du Plessis is in the country to conduct a four-week training with Kenya Cup side, the Kenya Harlequins.

Du Plessis is poised to step into the role of temporary coach for the Kenya Harlequins, covering in the absence of head coach Paul Murunga, who is on international assignment with the Kenya Lionesses.

His appointment guarantees a seamless transition, ensuring that the Quins continue their preseason training without missing a beat.

Paul Murunga not only coaches the Kenya Harlequins but, in that same vein, guides the Kenya rugby ladies' team, the Lionesses.

The ladies are in Dubai, UAE, for the WXV3 tournament, which runs until October 27, when the Lionesses play their final match against Colombia.

They are expected back in the country on October 29th, just in time for the Victoria Cup set for November 11.

Pau noted that Du Plessis would assist the club with preseason training as he focuses on a busy season for the Lionesses.

"Du Plessis is there for three to four weeks to help out the players with preseason training because I am not there for the next couple of weeks. So, it is a good opportunity for players to experience a different coach and a different person to make sure that we are able to do a proper pre-season.

“He will be helping the boys out, so, when I come back, we will still continue with our training season towards the Kenya Cup. It is good for us, our players, and our coaches back at home," Pau told Mozzart Sport.

On his side, Du Plessis was glad to be back in the country, noting that he will deliver a strong talent pathway for the young players in Kenya.

The contemplative coach also used the famous Bill Walsh philosophy: "If we do all things right with precision, the scoreboard will take care of itself."

Du Plessis guided Kabras to the Enterprise Cup title in 2019, as well as the runner-up slot in the Kenya Cup in the same season.

He currently coaches the Toyota Free State Cheetahs in the Currie Cup in South Africa.

Head coach Murunga transformed the Quins from the brink of relegation to the playoffs, where they lost in the semifinals of the 2022–23 Kenya Cup season.

The Quins lost all three of their opening matches before bouncing back to win all eight remaining matches to qualify for the semi-final stage.

They would, however, lose 22-8 to Kabras RFC after a spirited performance in the semifinal.

They will be looking to tap into Plessis' diverse knowledge to propel them to greater heights in the upcoming 2023–24 Kenya Cup season.
