Candid letter to Shujaa coach Namcos

The recent Africa 7s has exposed massive gaps in the team, and your coaching ability

Dear Namcos,

The recent Africa 7s has exposed massive gaps in the team, and your coaching ability. It was always going to be reckless to use majority of the same group of players for three weekends in a row. They were tired, uninspired and clueless. The worst Kenya 7s performances since a very long time back.

I also noticed that you tend to operate without a recognized assistant. Even if you are the greatest coach in the world, you need a second and third eye to point that things that you cannot see. Hopefully these things can give you more insights and make more informed decisions.

There were no creative and experienced players, you know, the kind who create chances out of nothing and put Kenya in a good position. We struggled against Senegal, lost to Madagascar and Uganda. I know sports has surprises but these results moved from surprises to shockers and a true indicator of how pathetic we are become.

And please dont talk about fatigue.

The Vincent Onyalas, Collins Injeras, Jacob Ojees of this world could have helped your cause but wait a minute, there is a rumor going round that some players are not interested in sevens right now and that you decided there is no room for players aged 30 and above. There is another rumor that you refuse to acknowledge the need for specialist help in some areas like conditioning. Where there is smoke, there is fire.

No matter how well educated you are, you cannot be the alpha and the omega of the coaching team.

Namcos, we rugby fans have too quiet for too long. We watched when you took responsibility of the black weekend in Paris when players blacked out a sponsors logo. We have watched you give excuses year in, year out.

Infact, your only achievements are taking Shujaa to over 100 points in the world series. That is not what we want to celebrate.

We are tired of your excuses. Watching Shujaa these days is so stressful, and what are these targets that you say the team is trying to hit? Two years of the same empty rhetoric is too much, too long.

We are not going to perform any better in the Commonwealth Games, the rest of the series and Rugby World Cup if you continue with your methods.

Bring back the Onyalas, Bring back the key over 30s, come on, we are sick and tired of watching a team that plays as if they were forced to.

Over to you Coach Namcos!

Yours Faithfully,

Evans Wandabwa
