KCB had begun the match strongly and enjoyed the better share of territory early on, building a 10-0 lead before Kabras fought back to level the score just before halftime.
KCB Rugby head coach Andrew Amonde has insisted that his side will push for a replay of their abandoned Kenya Cup clash against Kabras RFC, stressing that the Bankers are not satisfied with the possibility of sharing points.
The highly anticipated match between KCB and Kabras at the KCB Sports Club in Ruaraka was called off immediately after halftime due to heavy rain that left the pitch unplayable, with the scores tied at 10-10.
While the final decision now lies with the Kenya Rugby Union’s Fixtures and Leagues Committee, Amonde made it clear that KCB’s position is to have the match replayed rather than declared a draw.
“It is not a draw; the game was abandoned. So even on the table, there are no points,” Amonde told Mozzart Sport.
“It is a matter of meeting on Tuesday and picking a date when we will be able to play,” he added.
The former Kenya Sevens captain maintained that his side believes the match should be completed, arguing that the contest had not produced an outcome when it was halted.
“The only thing that we have done here is play Kabras. Unless they want it to be a draw, we want to continue playing. We want the match rescheduled so that it can be completed.
We are not satisfied with a draw because we know what we are capable of. We started so well. If we had just kept our heads in the game, this could be a very different conversation,” he said.
KCB had begun the match strongly and enjoyed the better share of territory early on, building a 10-0 lead before Kabras fought back to level the score just before halftime.
Despite the frustrating end to the contest, Amonde expressed confidence that his side could produce a different result if the match is replayed.
“We are very confident that we will ask for a reschedule of the match and see how we can play again,” he said.
For the tactician, the possibility of sharing points is not an option.
“Sharing points is out of the question for us. The only thing remaining is to reschedule the match,” he added.
The fate of the match now rests with the Kenya Rugby Union’s Fixtures and Leagues Committee, which will review the referee’s report and determine whether the 10-10 scoreline will stand or if the game will be replayed at a later date.
