The Lionesses maintained their 100% record on Day One of the Rugby Africa Women’s 7s tournament

The Kenya Lionesses capped off a perfect day with a thrilling 22-17 victory over Madagascar in their third pool match at the Rugby Africa Women’s 7s tournament in Accra, Ghana.

The Lionesses posted a rocky start to the game as Madagascar’s Lady Makis raced ahead, scoring two quick tries within the first three minutes.

Their first try landed in the corner but went unconverted, and they capitalized on Kenya’s defensive lapse to score again under the posts, this time adding the conversion to lead 12-0.

However, the Lionesses soon regained their footing. Judith Akumu led the comeback charge, scoring their first try, with Sharon Auma adding another just before halftime. Though Grace Auma could not convert either.

After the break, Kenya turned on the heat, with Stella Wafula scoring a crucial try to put them in the lead for the first time.

Grace Auma followed up with another try, stretching Kenya’s lead to 22-12. Madagascar managed to respond with a late try but could not convert, narrowing the score to 22-17.

In a nail-biting final stretch, Madagascar pressed hard to equalize, but the Lionesses’ defense held strong, sealing their third straight victory.

This final win was a fitting follow-up to Kenya’s earlier 61-0 rout of Mauritius and their 10-5 triumph over hosts Ghana, as they continue to make waves in the tournament with an unbeaten record.
