The 33-year-old led her Kenya Pipeline team to a bronze medal position
Malkia Strikers ace Trizah Atuka was on Sunday awarded the best middle blocker in the recently concluded CAVB Africa Women’s Club Championships in Abuja, Nigeria.
Atuka, 33, was on her top form as she led her side - Kenya Pipeline - to another podium finish in the competition, where they secured bronze.
In a classification matchup on Sunday, Kenya Pipeline shut down Tunisia’s Carthage 3-0 (28-26, 25-14, 28) to finish third in the 39th edition of the tournament.
It was the second year running that Geoffrey Omondi’s side was finishing in the bronze medal position.
Overall, it is Kenya Pipeline's eighth third-place finish at the event, which adds to their six championships and eight runners-up positions.
Atuka was the only Kenyan player to feature in the championships’ Dream Team, which also had five Zamalek players, two from Al Ahly, and one from Carthage.
The Most Valuable Player in the championships was Metwally Mohamed Mariam from eventual champions Zamalek.
The award for Atuka follows her best blocker award in the 2023 Confederation of Africa Volleyball (CAVB) Zone Five Club Championships.
Other teams playing in the championships, KCB and Kenya Prisons, finished fifth and sixth, respectively.
The two sides met in Saturday’s classification matches, where Japheth Munala’s charges triumphed in straight sets of 25-21, 25-22, 25-19.
The three clubs jet back into the country on Tuesday, 15 April.
