
Sakaja opens Uhuru Sports Complex Arena

Sakaja hinted at doing renovation works on the abandoned facilities in the city like Woodley Grounds, Kihumbuni, Ziwani, and Joe Kadenge Stadium, formerly City Stadium
Nairobi County Governor Johnson Sakaja on Saturday presided over the opening of Uhuru Complex Sports Arena in Embakasi West Sub-county.
The multi-discipline facility has been developed by the county government of Nairobi in conjunction with area leaders.
The sports complex, whose construction started during the Evans Kidero era, will comprise a football ground, and a basketball court and will also incorporate a multi-purpose social hall and a police post.
It also has a multipurpose hall to host indoor games like chess, and table tennis among other sports.
The sports complex also has a boxing ring to hold boxing matches and training.

Speaking at the opening Governor Sakaja retaliated his commitment to improve and develop sports facilities in Nairobi in support of the youth to advance their talents and abilities.
Sakaja hinted at doing renovation works on the abandoned facilities in the city like Woodley Grounds, Kihumbuni, Ziwani, and Joe Kadenge Stadium, formerly City Stadium.
"We will continue to build, develop, and maintain more sports facilities in the city. We recently opened Dandora Stadium, now it's Uhuru Complex Sports Arena and we have lined up works in Joe Kadenge Stadium, Woodley, Kihumbuni, Ziwani Githurai, and Mukuru in this financial year,” Governor Sakaja said
The county administrator who has so far delivered two stadia for the Nairobians, expressed gratitude to leaders who had worked tirelessly to make the projects a success.
“Much gratitude to former and current leaders who at different times played a role. From Hon. Norman Nyaga, Simon Mbugua, Yusuf Hassan, George Theuri, area MCA Mbatia, and current MP Mark Mwenje. Governor Kidero and Mike Sonko. Asanteni. This complex serves as a monument of all your efforts.”
The stadium comes as a boost with Kenya preparing infrastructures in readiness for CHAN 2024 and Africa Cup of Nations 2027.
