The match represents not just a challenge, but a turning point, a chance for the newly-promoted side to show they belong at this level
Parklands Sports Club are seeking their first win of the season when they face Kenya Police this weekend in a Kenya Hockey Union (KHU) men's Premier League encounter at the USIU-A Grounds.

The side, recently promoted back to the top flight, is aiming to bounce back after back-to-back losses in their opening fixtures.
Captain Bradley Wawire remains confident that the team is heading in the right direction despite early setbacks.
“We know Police are always a solid side - they are physical, organized, and have experience. But for us, it is not about who we are playing; it is about executing our game,” said Wawire. “We have been working on a few key areas during training, especially our structure and finishing in the final third. The energy in the squad has been good, and as captain, I can say the gents are very ready.”
Parklands suffered 4–0 defeats in both of their opening matches—against United States International University-Africa (USIU-A) and Butali Warriors. Notably, most of the goals conceded came in the fourth quarter: two in the USIU-A match and three in the Butali game, showing a lapse in late-game concentration.
“The first two games did not go our way—a few mistakes cost us—but we have taken those lessons seriously,” Wawire added. “It is now about bouncing back, showing character, and proving that Parklands belongs at this level.”
Parklands’ third scheduled match — a potentially winnable fixture against Daikyo Heroes in Mombasa was shelved last weekend due to unresolved logistical and administrative issues. The cancellation was a disappointment, but Wawire insists it has not derailed their momentum.
“It was frustrating, yes. There were legalities, illegalities, and miscommunication, but we have taken it in stride. The only dent was financial, but our spirit remains high. We are focused on what we can control, and that is the pitch," he continued.
That mentality will be crucial against a Kenya Police side renowned for their defensive shape, midfield discipline, and a lethal attack. For Parklands, the match represents not just a challenge, but a turning point — a chance to show that they belong at this level.
“We are looking to return to winning ways and announce our comeback. We have worked hard to correct our mistakes and are ready to prove we can compete.”
A total of 19 matches are scheduled across the country this weekend across all the KHU leagues.
