The bankers have recruited well this season, despite losing national team setter Immaculate Nekesa to rivals Kenya Pipeline

KCB volleyball women coach Japheth Munala says his side is ready to defend their league title this season.

Munala was among the nine coaches awarded on Saturday by Sports Journalists Association of Kenya (SJAK) for outstanding performance last year.

We had a tough time winning the league last year because it had been a long time since we won it. Actually the last time we had lifted the tittle was in 2008.

Now that we are defending champions we are in good shape to defend the title,” he said.

He revealed the team has recruited well despite losing national team setter Immaculate Nekesa to rivals Kenya Pipeline.

“We have brought in Sheila Baraza from Kwanthanze to replace her and she is doing very well.

You can remember that last year we also had a number of school girls in our team and it is the reason we won the league title.

This time we have started early and want the new comers to get used to our system and philosophy so that they can fit in quickly,” added Munala.

Regarding the africa club championships Munala said they are determined to wrestle it back this year after finishing fifth last year.

“We managed only fifth position last year despite being defending championships. Our plan is to try and win it back this year since it comes with the added motivation of playing at the World Club championships.

For us this is a great motivation and we want to win it so that we can go to the world event.”
