The Masters Series, designed to bring together veteran players from across the country, continues to grow in stature as it rotates through different hockey hubs, giving former national and club players a competitive yet social platform to reconnect with the sport.
The two-day event, running from Saturday, 11 to Sunday, 12 October, has attracted some of the country’s most established Masters teams, including Impala Veterans, Wazalendo Veterans, Greensharks Veterans, Western Masters, Kisumu Veterans, Parkroad Lions, Goan Institute, Blue Ocean Chiefs, and Kisumu Masters.
James Chege who is part of the organizing team, noted that the move to host the tournament in Kakamega County aligns with efforts to decentralize Masters hockey, and promote engagement in regions with rich hockey heritage.
“The Masters Series is not just about competition — it’s about community, friendship, and continuing the spirit of hockey beyond active league participation. Western Kenya has produced great players for the national teams, and bringing the series here is a way of celebrating that history,” said Chege.
The tournament opens on Saturday morning with Western Masters B taking on Western Masters A at 9:00 AM, setting the tone for a day packed with back-to-back fixtures.
Other opening clashes include Kisumu Veterans vs Kisumu Masters, Wazalendo Veterans vs Greensharks Veterans, and Parkroad Lions vs Goan Institute before Impala Veterans face Western Masters at 10:40 AM.
The pool stages will feature 14 games on Saturday, concluding with Kisumu Veterans vs Goan Institute at 2:25 PM.
Sunday’s schedule begins early with Impala Veterans vs Western Masters B at 8:00 AM, followed by high-stakes encounters between Blue Ocean Chiefs, Parkroad Lions, Greensharks Veterans, and Wazalendo Veterans as teams battle for semifinal spots.
The semifinals are set for 11:00 AM and 11:30 AM, with the top two teams from each pool clashing for a place in the main final. Classification matches for positions 5th to 10th will also be played, ensuring every team gets ample pitch time.
The Main Cup Final will be contested at 1:40 PM, immediately after the 3rd/4th playoff, with presentations scheduled for 2:20 PM.
Adding extra excitement to the event, organizers have included a Kenya Airways raffle draw, where one lucky participant will win an air ticket to the African Masters Invitational Tournament in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The 2025 Masters Series began in Mombasa, moved to Nairobi for the second leg, and now arrives in Western Kenya.
