Munala further, revealed they also remain in contention to win the league title despite being in sixth position on the log

KCB Women's Volleyball coach Japheth Munala says the team is ready to reclaim the Africa Club Championship title.

This year’s tournament will be held in Abuja, Nigeria from April 1-14.

The Bankers last won the title in 2022 when they beat Al-Ahly from Egypt 3-1 during the finals held in Tunisia.

Last year the team finished fourth after losing to fellow Kenyan club Kenya Pipeline 3-1 in the fight for bronze.

We have been rebuilding our squad after losing several key players and we will be ready to reclaim the title by the time the club championship starts,” he said.

Munala revealed that they have recruited two new setters whom, he expressed confidence, will be ready to compete for them at the continental level.

We brought on board Faridah Oboke and Brigid Barasa who are showing a lot of promise. They are a great replacement for some of our key players who left,” he disclosed.

The club lost Elizabeth Lemosiany, Sharon Chepchumba and Mariam Musa while Esther Mutinda has been sidelined for the rest of the season.

Munala admitted that the presence of three other Kenyan clubs at the continental championships will make the competition even tougher.

Kenya Pipeline, DCI, and Kenya Prisons are the other clubs that will feature in the event.

The three added to opposition from Egypt and Tunisia will make the event even tougher but we are determined to give it our best,” he observed.

Munala further, revealed they also remain in contention to win the league title despite being in sixth position on the log.

Our target is to make sure we finish in the top eight so that we can take part in the play-offs. From there, we have a strategy of winning the league,” he said.

Kenya Pipeline top the standings followed by Kenya Prisons, DCI, Kahawa, and Kenya Army.

KCB posted mixed results in their last league matches losing by identical 3-2 scores to Kenya Pipeline and Prisons. They beat Postbank 3-0.

They won the Kipchumba Karori International tournament two weeks ago in Eldoret after beating DCI 3-1.

This was the third time they won the trophy.
