Torrential downpour pounding several parts of the country deteriorated race conditions, with the gravel tracks in Naivasha severely punishing drivers and cars.

A number of stages, including Sleeping Warrior and Camp Moran, were cancelled as the muddy tracks posed major safety risks to drivers.

Having piloted the Mitsubishi Evo X for more than a decade, Amwari, who finished eighth in the Safari Rally, believes now is the time to upgrade his car.

“We are praying to God that this will be the last event with this car. I think we have outgrown this car; we need to step up a bit and go higher.

With that, we will challenge the big boys, because we have the talent and everything it takes to be at the top,” said Amwari.

There were reports of Amwari piloting a Skoda Fabia in the 2026 Safari Rally; however, delays in receiving the car led to him shelving the plans.

His Mitsubishi, however, took a beating during Saturday’s Soysambu 1 stage as he broke his left front suspension, leading to massive lost time that could have seen him challenging top positions.

“We had issues, the terrain was too tough, but the only way to improve is to upgrade, and I hope that we will be able to upgrade this year in order to challenge for the top.

This has been the toughest event that I have ever taken part in; it was merciless for those days. We want to thank God for giving us this opportunity,” added Amwari.

The experienced driver also reserved kind words for his sponsors, Mozzart Bet, after enjoying a four-year partnership that extended to the 2026 Safari Rally.

“I also want to thank Mozzart for giving me this opportunity to be here today. We could not be racing if it were not for them. It has been a four-year journey, and we are still growing each day,” concluded Issa.
