Hunt for African volleyball title serves off with Pipeline, KCB in action

Zamalek defeated the Kenyan Oil merchants in last year's final denying the side what would have been their first championship since 2005

Three Kenyan teams are in Cairo, Egypt where the hunt for this year’s CAVB Women’s Club Championship title serves off on Friday 26 April and run through to 5 May.

Led by African silver medalists Kenya Pipeline who go to battle under the tutelage of Esther Jepkosgei, national league holders Kenya Commercial Bank who won the African title in 2022 and Prisons Kenya, the Kenyan sides are keen to rec;laim the title won by Zamalek last year.

In the draw conducted on Thursday 25 April night, Josp Barasa’s Prisons landed pool A that has hosts Al Ahly of Egypt and NC Bejala of Algeria in the only group that has three teams.

Pool B will see holders Zamalek (Egypt), National Alcohol Factory (Ethiopia), ASEC Mimosa (Democratic Republic of the Congo) and Mechaal Balladiat Beiaia (Algeria) clash.

Pipeline who are keen to go one better this year and lift a title that has eluded them since 2005 headline pool C that has Nigeria Customs Service (Nigeria), Saint Denis Olympioue and Mavo Kane Evolution (Cameroon).

Japheth Munala’s KCB who have been boosted by the return of 2022 Most Valuable Player (MVP) Sharon Chepchumba are in group D where they square out with Litto Team Volley (Cameroon), Sococim (Senegal), and Association Sportive de Bejaia (Algeria).

Pipeline get action going for the Kenyan teams as they face off with Customs from 6 pm with KCB next from 8 pm against Association Sportive de Bejaia.

4. Pool D - 16:00 - Litto Team Volley (CAM) vs. Sococim (SEN)

5. Pool B - 20:00 - National Alcohol Factory (ETH) vs. Mechaal Balladiat Beiaia (ALG)

6. Pool C - 18:00 - Nigeria Customs Service (NIG) vs. Kenya Pipeline VB Club

7. Pool D - 20:00 - Association Sportive de Bejaia (ALG) vs. Kenya Commercial Bank (KEN)
