
Hockey: Daikyo Heroes defeat Sikh Union for first-ever season victory

Daikyo Heroes registered their first win of the 2025 Kenya Hockey Union (KHU) Premier League Men’s (PLM) season with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Sikh Union Nairobi on Sunday, May 25, at the Aryans Grounds.

Playing their second match in their debut weekend, Daikyo edged out Sikh Union Nairobi 1-0 in an early kick off clash, thanks to a 45th-minute penalty corner goal from Farkhan Khan.
The result came as redemption for Daikyo, who had suffered a narrow 1-0 loss to Kenya Police just a day earlier in their long-awaited league debut.
Elsewhere on Sunday, Strathmore University men suffered their second defeat of the weekend, falling 4-2 to Butali Warriors at the Dashmesh Hockey Stadium.
Butali’s scoring spree featured goals from Moses Ademba in the fourth minute, Francis Kariuki in the 42nd minute, George Mutira in the 49th minute and Festus Onyango in the 52nd minute, overpowering Strathmore’s efforts through Amos Kalui and Paul Odero.
In the Premier League Women (PLW), Strathmore University Ladies and USIU-A Ladies played out a goalless draw at the Dashmesh Hockey Stadium.
Meanwhile, at USIU-A Grounds, Sliders and Amira Sailors settled for a 1-1 draw. Sliders drew first blood through Anita Agunda in the 7th minute before Felistar Njoki leveled for Amira in the 23rd.
In the Super League Men (SLM), Mvita XI edged out Kisii Falcons 2-1 at USIU-A Grounds, with early goals from Polycarp Isiyakho in the fourth minute and Alfred Otiende in the 12th minute proving decisive.
Frankline Ogendi struck a consolation for Kisii in the 55th minute.
Sailors were awarded a walkover against Kisumu Youngstars.
On Saturday, Butali Warriors reaffirmed their PLM title credentials with a dominant 6-1 victory over KCA University.
While Kenya Police edged Daikyo Heroes 1-0, handing them a tough season opening, while Parklands Sports Club pulled off an impressive 2-1 upset win over Strathmore University Men.
In the only PLW match, Amira Sailors edged Strathmore University Ladies 2-1.
Saturday’s Super League Men fixtures featured a 9-goal thriller as Kisii Falcons beat Greensharks 5-4.
Parkroad Tigers overcame Sailors 3-1, while Kisumu Youngstars and Mvita XI settled for a 1-1 draw.
In Super League Women (SLW) action, Gorilla Ladies secured a 2-1 win over Swans.
The clash between NCBA Wazalendo Pearl and Lakers - B was ruled a walkover in favour of Lakers, after the Highway Secondary School pitch was deemed unplayable.
