Four matches are scheduled for Saturday, with the first, a women's third-place playoff serving off at 10am

General Service Unit's (GSU) campaign to recapture the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) men's league title, got off to a winning start as the side held off a hard-fighting Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) for a 3-0 victory, taking an early advantage.

Meanwhile, Kenya Pipeline are one win away from clinching the KVF women's league title, after taking game one of the best-of-three final, in straight sets, against Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI).

The two sides had qualified for the final after Pipeline saw off defending champions Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) while DCI won a five-set thriller in both game one and two against former champions Prisons Kenya.

In the men's title game, GSU had a strong start off in the first set, racing to a quick 25-15 that left many of the fans that had showed up for the playoff final double-header, at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, eager to have a different story, one not of domination. And boy did KPA deliver!

The second set was a see-saw from the get go, with both sides holding slight advantages but it was GSU who made the first move in the crucial stages, racing to a 21-19 lead with an ace.

Tarus' men further led 23-20 but KPA pulled two back for 23-22.

A monster block took GSU to set point. While the first one fell at the feet of the blockers, the former champions orchestrated one that targeted the poorly covered back court to end the set 25-22.

It was, however, the third set that repaid all the neutral fans who had showed up purely for entertainment purposes while leaving the rest hearts racing as the two sides played out for a dramatic 30-28 finish.

GSU came from 22-20 behind to deny KPA at 24-23, forcing the match into an edge-of-the-seat back and forth but GSU brought the house down with some hards hits for victory.

The second matches of the best-of-three final playoffs are scheduled for Saturday, with two sides keen to seal their wins while today's losers seek redemption.

The third place matches pitting the losing semi finalists get the day action going.
