While Tanzania and Uganda, Kenya’s co-hosts, have already met CAF’s financial obligations, Kenya is finalizing arrangements to ensure full compliance
The Government of Kenya has officially announced the venues that will host matches for the 2027 African Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Appearing before the Senate, Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Salim Mvurya, confirmed that Raila Odinga Stadium and the iconic Kasarani Stadium will serve as the main match venues.
The Raila Odinga Stadium, a KSh 44.3 billion project, is currently 80% complete, with construction on track for completion by April 2026.
In addition, the CS designated Nyayo National Stadium, Ulinzi Complex, and Kasarani Annex as official training grounds for participating teams.
“I want to announce that Talanta City Stadium, the Raila Odinga Stadium, and Kasarani Stadium will host the AFCON tournament matches, while Nyayo Stadium, Kasarani Annex, and Ulinzi Complex will serve as training venues,” Mvurya stated.
Addressing public concerns over the $30 million (approximately KSh 3.5–3.9 billion) hosting fee, the CS clarified that Kenya is actively working with the Treasury and relevant parliamentary committees to settle the required payment.
While Tanzania and Uganda, Kenya’s co-hosts, have already met CAF’s financial obligations, Kenya is finalizing arrangements to ensure full compliance.
“The government is working closely with the Treasury and relevant committees to have the hosting fee paid. I want to assure the country that the government will meet this requirement, and Kenya will host the tournament,” he added.
Kenya secured the joint bid alongside Tanzania and Uganda on September 2023 under the East African “Pamoja” bid as the winning host to host the 36th edition of AFCON, which is scheduled to run from 19th June to 18th July 2027.
