Fireworks expected in busy hockey weekend

With Monday, 2 June, declared a public holiday, Kenya Hockey Union (KHU) clubs are bracing for a jam-packed match-week eight, which stretches from Saturday through to Monday.

18 matches will be played across the Premier League (Men and Women), National League (Men – Eastern Zone).

On Saturday in the women’s Premier League, Kisumu Queens host Strathmore University Ladies at 11:00 am at Kisumu Simba.

In Nairobi, Gorillas and Mombasa West open the day’s National League - Eastern Zone (NLM-EZ) action at Impala Club at noon, followed by Wazalendo Youth vs Mombasa Sports Club Men at Highway Secondary School in another NLM-EZ contest.

Meanwhile, in Kisumu Day, Lakers take on Twinkle at 1:00 pm, before Blazers face Mombasa Sports Club Ladies at Dashmesh Stadium in a 2:00 pm fixture.

Premier League Men’s (PLM) action will see action at Eregi TTC, where Western Jaguars face Strathmore University Men. Simultaneously at 3:00 pm, KCA University battles Parklands Sports Club at Parklands, while Kenya Police host Wazalendo at USIU-A Grounds.

Sunday kicks off early at 9:00 am with three simultaneous matches. At Impala, Gorillas clash with Mombasa Sports Club Men, while Wazalendo Youth face Mombasa West at Highway High School. In Kisumu Day and Kisumu Simba, Lakers play Strathmore University Ladies, and Kisumu Queens meet Twinkle respectively.

USIU-A Ladies will play Mombasa Sports Club Ladies at 11:00 am. Later at 1:00 pm, Sliders take on Blazers at the same venue.

The day closes with USIU-A Men locking horns with KCA University at 3:00 pm.

Madaraka Day, Monday, will feature two Premier League Men’s matches and one Women’s Premier League game.

USIU-A Ladies meet Amira Sailors at 1:00 pm. At 3:00 pm, Wazalendo take on Sikh Union Nairobi at Dashmesh Stadium, while USIU-A Men face Strathmore University Men in the weekend’s final game.
