FEASSSA Games: Tigoi Girls run riot in hockey as St Anthony, Musingu dazzle in boys' category

In the girls’ category, Tigoi dismantled Uganda’s Namagunga with a commanding 13–0 victory, asserting their dominance

The fifth day of the Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA) Games in Kakamega produced thrilling action across hockey, basketball and volleyball, with Tigoi Girls delivering the day’s biggest statement in hockey.

Girls' Hockey

In the girls’ category, Tigoi dismantled Uganda’s Namagunga with a commanding 13–0 victory, asserting their dominance.

Ng’iya Girls also impressed with a narrow 1–0 win over Kakungulu, while defending champions St. Joseph’s Kitale proved clinical in their 3–0 triumph over Mwiki. Mushanga and Bweranyangi battled to a barren draw.

Boys' Hockey

In the boys’ category, Kenyan sides Musingu and St Anthony continued their strong campaigns. Defending champions Musingu outclassed Mbarara 4–1, while St Anthony saw off Ntare 2–0.

Kakungulu picked up a morale-boosting 4–1 win over Kyadondo, with Mpesa and St Charles settling for a 1–1 stalemate.

Boys' 3x3 Basketball

The boys' 3x3 basketball competition served up nail-biting contests, with St. Mary’s Yala edging St. Cyprian of Uganda 12–11 in a closely fought clash.

Amus College stamped authority with a 21–11 win over Juhudi, while St. Joseph’s Boys Kitale dispatched Nyakasura 18–8. In one of the day’s shockers, APE Rugunga narrowly beat Sigalame 21–20.

Girls' 3x3 Basketball

In the girls’ fixtures, Kenyan teams held the upper hand. Asumbi saw off GS Gahini 15–10, Tigoi continued their fine day with a 15–6 win over Kitende, and BuruBuru overcame Seroma 15–7. Mvara also shone, cruising past Juhudi 14–2.

Boys' 5x5 Basketball

In basketball 5x5, Kenya’s Dr. Aggrey put up a spirited fight but fell short against Amus College, losing 61–55. Lukenya School, however, flew the Kenyan flag high with a resounding 79–48 win over Kibuli SS.

Girls' 5x5 Basketball

In the girls’ category, Olympic Secondary could not withstand Kitende’s firepower, going down 64–43 to the Ugandan giants.

Girls' volleyball

Defending volleyball girls’ champions Kesogon had a perfect day, defeating compatriots Bishop Sulumeti 3–1 (25-16, 23-25, 25-11, 25-16) before dismantling Rwanda’s St Aloys 3–0 (25-21, 25-12, 25-11) to strengthen their title defense.

Kenyan champions Kwathanze also looked sharp, easing past Uganda’s Amus 3–0 (25-9, 25-14, 25-10). Soweto swept Katikamu 3–0, while Mwitoti made light work of Tororo with another straight sets victory.

In other matches, Mwanhuzi and Kamonyi also registered straight-set wins against Bukedea and Kajunjumele, respectively.

Boys' volleyball

In the boys’ contest, Kenyan champions Cheptil survived a stern test against Uganda’s Namgongo, emerging 3–1 winners (25-23, 19-25, 25-23, 25-18). Malava edged Rwanda’s PSV F in a pulsating five-set thriller 3–2 (16-25, 25-21, 25-18, 27-25, 15-8).

Mwaluphamba outclassed Tumbi 3–0, while Gogo beat compatriots St. Peters in straight sets. Burundi’s St Luc and St Phillipe were also in commanding form, beating Standard High and Bugogwa respectively.
