Initially, the season was to start on June 15 but the dates were pushed back under unclear circumstances

The Kenya Hockey Union (KHU) has confirmed that the new season is set to belatedly kick off on Saturday 3 August.

Initially, the season was to start on Saturday 15 June but the dates were pushed back under unclear circumstances.

However, a circular from the Union to the clubs seen by Mozzart Sport indicates that the leagues will kick off next month.

Last season’s champions will also be handed their titles on the day the season will kick off in a brief ceremony set for Dashmesh Stadium.

Defending champions Butali Warriors and Blazers will launch their title defences against Western Jaguars and Sliders respectively.

The new season will see clubs stage matches away from the City Park Stadium as the facility has been closed for renovations.

The facility was closed for renovations after the conclusion of the national teams’ preparations for the Africa Games in January.

The unavailability of the facility means that Nairobi-based teams will either host matches at the Dashmesh Stadium with some matches being played on a natural surface.

The USIU grounds and Impala Club have been approved to host matches.

The Men’s and Women’s Premier League will have ten teams each in the new season.

The Men’s Super League will be made up of 12 teams with the women’s category having 13 outfits.

The nationwide league has 25 teams.
