Carthage test for KCB as CAVB action enters day two

Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB ) Women's Club Championship enters day two with the three Kenyan clubs in action at 2pm and 6pm. 

Japeth Munala's KCB have the toughest task, on paper, as they face defending champions Carthage in pool B. 

Kenyan sides open CAVB club title campaign with resounding victories

Following their 3-0 victory in the opening match against ASEC Mimosa of Ivory Coast on Sunday, technical director Paul Bitok says the club is going for a top place finish in the group stage. 

"I am happy with how my players handled the Mimosa match and I hope we will carry the same fighting spirit to the rest of the group matches," said Bitok. 

The bankers are making a return to the continental showpiece after missing out on last year's event, their last appearance being in 2019 where they finished ninth in Cairo. The 2020 edition was cancelled due to Covid-19. 

Meanwhile, last year's bronze medalist Prisons Kenya take on National Alcohol of Ethiopia in their second match of pool C, having already picked a first win against Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) Spikers of Nigeria on Sunday. 

"Every win counts in a championship like this one. I am happy for the good start and I am hoping to maintain this tempo in the group stage," Prisons' head coach Josp Barasa said. 

Former league and continental champions Kenya Pipeline face Ghanaians El Wak Wings in their second match as coach Paul Gitau hopes to guide his charges to a second victory in pool D.
