“So many stories are coming up,some say it was a land issue, others say it was about a marriage that was not approved. These are issues that should never lead to the loss of a young life,” he added.
Shimanyula also revealed how the club moved swiftly after learning of the assault, saying the management did everything possible to save the defender’s life.
“When we received the call about the incident, our team manager immediately went to his home and rushed him to hospital,” he said.
Beyond the tragic circumstances surrounding his death, Abungana is being remembered as a dependable and talented defender whose career was on a steady rise. Shimanyula said the club has lost not just a player, but a rare talent with a promising future.
“He was a regular starter and very solid in defence,he played very well in our last match against Mara Sugar. This is a big loss to Kakamega Homeboyz, Kakamega County and the whole country.”
Shimanyula further revealed that Abungana was already beginning to attract attention from national team selectors, underlining the magnitude of the loss to Kenyan football.
