The 20-year-old needs 65 points to make the cut for the Summer Games

African Games champion Angella Okutoyi will resume her chase for a Paris 2024 Olympic spot when she lines up at the W35 Bethany Beach Women’s Singles tournament next week.

The 20-year-old, who will on Monday 13 May rank a career best 520th position on the WTA standings, needs 65 points to make the cut for the Summer Games.

As per current projections, the aforementioned points total will push her to players ranked between 380-400, just the required spot she needs to be eligible for the Olympics.

The deadline for her to be among the top 400 players on the WTA standings is 10 June.

The tournament in Delaware is set to run from 13-19 May, and comes after a week’s break for Okutoyi, who suffered disappointment in her last attempt in Florida.

The 2023 Kenya Open champion fell to American Allie Kiick in the event’s quarter finals, but believes that the setback, coupled with a qualifying round loss to American Sophie Chang in Charlottesville a week earlier, will boost her upcoming preparations.

"The tournaments in Charlotte and Florida have revealed some areas where I must improve,” Okutoyi said in a Saturday interview with The Star. “Mentally, I have to get the grit to ensure I go past the quarters, and look at playing in the finals of the upcoming tournaments to boost my chances of playing in the Olympics.”

After Bethany Beach, Okutoyi, a student at Auburn University, is set to cap off her qualification chase with a go at the W15 event in San Diego from 27 May to 2 June.
